Hunted by his own people for crimes he didn't commit, Michael has to learn a whole new life at the hands of a beautiful woman. Can she help him clear his name, or will just being in her presence get him sentenced to death?
Carissa Markel doesn't know who this man chained to the wall is, but he's her only chance for escape. She has power, but, born without a voice, she lacks the means to wield it. One choice, made in desperation, sends them running for his life. Does she have the strength to help him clear his name? And what will her brother, the King of Dragons, do if he finds out what she's done? That's immaterial, the real question is… can she keep her hands off him long enough to find out?

Vote For A Killer

Secrets and Lies

I just finished watching the newest episode of Secrets and Lies. It's driving me crazy, trying to figure out who the killer is, and so I am casting my vote now.  I'll also tell you why I suspect them.

My vote is going to the youngest daughter.  Why do I think the little girl killed the little boy across the street?

1. Did you see how Cornell (Juliette Lewis) was staring at her both at the fair and later at home? They try to make it look like Cornell is wanting to protect her or wanting to question her, but it's because she thinks the girl did the deed.

2. The girl has a major jealous streak. She tells her father that she's a daddy's girl and has to stay with him. Then she gets upset when he invites the neighbor to tag along. When he tells her he's going to wait with Jess while she goes for popcorn, she screams to bring him running. She's upset over something, and they make it look like it's something she saw on her phone, but she broke her phone cause she's jealous.

3. We know she overheard the fight her parents had over Jess the night of Tom's murder. Her mom threw her dad out, and he went drinking. Abby, afraid of losing her father, decides that if she gets rid of Tom, Jess will move away. I'm sure she was also jealous of the time her dad spent with Tom. He said the kid was like a son to him.

4. Abby is missing.  Everyone is frantic, worried the girl could be in danger, but she's the killer.  So, she's fine.

5. She was obviously alone that night. Dad was at a bar and then passed out on the couch. The mother was with her boyfriend, and we established a long time ago that the oldest daughter was not where she was supposed to be.

6. I thought all along that the boy wouldn't leave the house if an adult tried to lure him out, but he'd go with another kid.

7. She wanted him to drown cause she knew he couldn't swim, but when he tried to leave, she hit him with her dad's flashlight.

8. It would have been very easy for her to borrow her dad's flashlight.

9. She probably saw her dad coming from the house across the street after putting Tom to bed.  Maybe she was even watching through the window when he tucked the kid in and kissed him goodnight.

10. Almost forgot important evidence. They are looking at the blood splatter. Through that they can tell how tall a person is, and when the guy gives Cornell his conclusions on the blood splatter tests, she says, "It was her."  Jess and Christy are about the same height.  Abby is the only one noticeably shorter. It was her.

11. She also says something very telling, that she thought it would make Jess sad to be around places that remind her of her son. So, Abby thought by getting rid of Tom, she would make Jess want to move away.

Anyway, my money is on her.

Abby had motive: to keep her family together.
She had means: her dad's flashlight.
And she had opportunity: She was at home alone.

Grey's Anatomy

TOP TEN DEATHS ON GREY'S ANATOMY

After watching last night's episode--this will contain major spoilers if you'v'e somehow managed not to hear who they killed off, stop here--I have had enough.  No more.  I am not watching this show ever again.  Yes, killing off characters is sometimes a good thing to further the story, touch your audience, or make a meaningful point that keeps people thinking days later.  But killing off yet another great character in an ironic/sad way was just stupid.  I've had enough.

So, I am dedicating this to McDreamy (who will live on in reruns), and to all the other wonderful characters I loved and then lost thanks to this show.

They are in no particular order.

10.  George: I'll never forget how they tried to make us think George had gone off to join the military only to have Meredith figure out that the grotesque, swollen patient that got ran over by a bus is actually George.  This one didn't hit me that hard. I wasn't that invested in George, but I think this was the start of the kill-off-characters-for-a-shock-effect.

9.  Kyle Chandler: I loved this actor on Friday Night Lights and was happy to see him guest starring as a bomb expert on Grey's.  Unfortunately, he was blown to bits.  Thanks for that.

8.  Meredith's stepmom: I can't remember her name and didn't care that much about her character, but Meredith's father blamed her for the woman's death.  It was just another slap in the face to my favorite female character on the show.  It's a wonder Meredith isn't even more screwed up than she is.

7.  Meredith's real mom: When Ellis Grey died, I felt it was about time, but she couldn't leave without being hateful one more time to Meredith.  Love that Derek stood up for her.  He was such a wonderful character.

6.  Denny:  Played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan from my favorite show Supernatural (people die on this show all the time, but they get to come back), I loved Denny.  Izzy fell in love with and agreed to marry him.  Then she got ready for a banquet in the hospital and came down the elevator to show Denny her beautiful dress.  Of course, he was dead.  It was shocking, and this was the first death I really cared about.  This is when I should have stopped watching.

5.  Mark:  I was shocked when they killed off Mark following a plane crash.  He managed to survive a short time in the hospital.  I still miss him..

4.  Lexie: Meredith's sister also died in the plane crash.  I thought that was brutal enough without also taking out Mark.  Too much too fast, people.  And I really liked her.

3.  Avery's baby:  When April and Jackson lost their baby, that was also a box-of-tissues moment.  Hated to see that happen.

2.  Derek:  This was the straw that broke the camel's back.
Although the show is about people working, living, and dying in a hospital, it is also the story of Derek and Meredith.  We saw them meet, fall in love, go through hell to be together, and travel through a lot of storms.  Derek was shot, in a plane crash, and suffered through a lot of other terrible things, but he always lived.  To see him die from stupid mistakes and from an injury he ironically could have saved a person from was just too much.

1. FILL IN THE NEXT CHARACTER: This is an empty slot for the next incredible character they kill off.  I, however, will not be watching.

Goodbye, Derek.

Goodbye, Grey's Anatomy

Top Ten YA with Romance

Top Ten YA with Romance (in my opinion).

10.  Twilight: Bella can't stay away from Edward, and the girl can't hardly think of anything but him.  It's obsessive love, but it works.  This book, with all its problems, helped me to fall in love with YA again so it has to be on my list of top ten.

9.  Vampire Academy: Interesting romance along with a deep friendship between a girl and the girl she has to protect, but I thought the second one in the series was better than the first.

8.  Fault in Our Stars: To be honest, I haven't read this one yet, but people keep telling me how amazing it is, so I think it deserves to be somewhere on my list.

7.  Vampire Diaries: While I like the show now better than the books, it all started there, and I remember loving the tension between the two brothers and Elena while reading it.

6.  Divergent: I usually hate these kind of books, but the idea of a girl wanting to join this reckless group of young people even if it meant never seeing her family again drew me in.

5. If I Stay: I admit to liking the movie better than the book.  Sorry.  Usually I don't feel that way, but the actress who played the girl was amazing.  Still, this is one of my faves when it comes to romance in YA.

4. Shiver: I can't remember their names now, but I enjoyed reading this one about a girl who falls in love with a werewolf.  It is very teen love.  After they finally spend the night together, she is amazed that her mother can't tell by just looking at her.  That hit me as very real.

3. Harry Potter: I know these fantasy books that started out for children and wound up being written for an older group doesn't have much in the field of romance, but what I like about it is the jealousy and the confused way that Ron and Hermonie started their relationship.

2. Need:  This is about pixies.  If you haven't read it, you should try it.  The main girl has two boyfriends throughout the series and you have no idea who she'll wind up with.  Worth reading.

1. City of Bones: These are my favorite YA books, the Mortal Instrument Series, and it all starts with this one.  Jace is sarcastic, kind of mean, and witty.  He's a bad boy that you just want to put your arms around.  Clary is the girl who falls for him and grows into a strong person by the end.

Honorable Mentions: I didn't want to be so arrogant as to list mine above, even though I do love the romance in them, so I am putting them down here.

Bait: This one starts off the Order of the Spirit Realm Series and features a forbidden love that grows between Van Helsing's daughter and a rock star slash vampire hunter.  She's driven to be a great hunter so she can seek revenge on the pack that killed her mom, and he is angry because he had to grow up without a family.

Vampires Rule: When Jack loses his fangs and gets a second chance at a normal life, he falls in love with THE werewolf slayer.  At that point, any chance he had at normal is gone.

????

Seems like every book I pick up says the same basic thing: An ordinary boy/girl finds out they are (blank) and want a normal life but can't have it.

Yes, I know, I have some like this, but after a while it gets boring.

For once, I would like to pick up a book and read: Extraordinary boy/girl finds out they can (fill in blank with a superhuman power) and they are excited about it.  They run to their new life and embrace it with both arms..

Who's with me on this?

What sort of books are you tired of seeing/reading?

MORTALS RULE

I am currently working on the last book in the Rule Series, and I was thinking I should ask fans of the series what they would like to see in the final book.

Happy ending or no?
Who would you like to see die?
Who would you like to see live?

This is it, the FINAL book!
