Excerpt:

Bay-Lee got her dagger ready.
The other werewolf either heard or smelled her. It abandoned its quest to climb the wall for a more logical task. The thing sent a silent message to the other one. Werewolves could communicate telepathically. Whatever it told the other wolf got it to press forward. They were trapping Bay-Lee between them.
Any second the furry beasts would attack. They’d tear her apart. The single blade in her hand couldn’t take them both out.
She reached beneath her jacket and pulled out the poisoned comb. Maybe there wasn’t enough poison left to kill a second werewolf. She was about to find out. Too bad she didn’t have a sword or a gun. The idea of getting close enough to kill the wolves worried her.
A single question brewed in her mind: how lucky was she?
Choreographed, the wolves both flew at her from different directions.
She ducked and rolled.
They slammed into each other.
With a weapon in each hand, Bay-Lee made a run for it. A quick exit was her only hope. She might even make it... if the wolves had hurt each other enough to make them dizzy or disoriented.
A third wolf rounded the corner.
Her heart sank as she realized she wouldn’t make it out alive.
An idea sprang to mind, and she rushed at a wall. She plunged her blade into the plaster as she jumped as high as she could. Her feet kicked at the wall, searching for traction. The dagger helped her pull herself higher than she would have been able to do otherwise.
Below her a wolf slammed into the wall headfirst.
The temporary structure shook.
She lost her grip on the knife and fell.
The hard landing knocked the breath from her body and pain stabbed her in the gut. She couldn’t move, couldn’t breathe. Any second now she would feel teeth and claws tearing into her flesh. She’d be defenseless against them.
Squeezing her eyes shut, she prayed for a quick death.
