Disaster Movies

Top Ten Disaster Movie List

I love a good disaster movie. In fact, I think they are my favorite kind of movies with the running and the screaming. I enjoy getting to know the characters and then seeing who makes it and who doesn't. (These are in no particular order)

1. Independence Day: What's not to love about this movie? You've got aliens, Will Smith, fireworks, humor, and tons of action. This is one I can watch again and again. It had so many great lines I can't even begin to list them.

2. Twister: The first time I watched this it was in the theater and the seats shook from the sound of the oncoming tornado. It was awesome. I loved the storyline about a bickering ex couple that never should have broken up.

3. Poseidon: This is the remake with Kurt Russel and Josh Lucas. It was better than the first in my opinion. Unlike the original, I thought these people had a good plan for escape: find a way outside to the water and get in a lifeboat.

4. San Andreas: I am a huge Rock fan, so it was great to watch him saving lives during an earthquake.

5. Deep Blue Sea: Not a disaster movie by some peoples' standards, but it was a disaster to the people trapped in an underwater building that was taking in water. Not to mention getting away from the sharks. My favorite part was watching the main character fall. If you count how many times he hits the floor, it's about ten or eleven. I forget, but it's amusing to watch.

6. Deep Impact: This one has some tear-jerker moments that make you grab for the tissue box. There were some characters I didn't care for, but overall it's a good movie.

7. Armageddon: This movie and Deep Impact are pretty much the same movie, and I used to get them confused a lot, but this one has Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck. It didn't make me cry like Deep Impact though. Sorry, Bruce. I didn't really care when your character sacrificed himself cause I was expecting it the whole time.

8. Day After Tomorrow: This disaster movie is a touch different than the rest. Memorable moments include US citizens running across the border into Mexico.

9. 2012: This is one of my faves for sure. The main character saves his ex wife and kids despite her new jealous boyfriend's reluctance. The dog survives. :)

10. Titanic: This is the only movie I didn't watch for the disaster. I enjoyed the romantic storyline between Leo and Kate too much. By the time they got to the iceberg, I was not happy. They should have just played out the love story. haha

Worst Disaster Movie: War of the Worlds (the remake with Tom Cruise): I hated this one on so many levels. It was kind of cool the way the aliens obliterated people. I was actually bored several times during this one. It lacked the suspense I've come to enjoy in disaster movies. The little girl (yes, I think she's a great little actress), but her screaming got on my nerves so bad. Part of me was hoping she'd get eaten so she'd shut up.

Honorable Mention: Cloverfield: Most of my friends did not like this one because the camera was wobbly and unfocused. Hello? That was the point. It's like you were there with them during the alien attack. I enjoyed it.

Top Ten Surprise Ending Movies

I love a good movie, especially if it has a surprise-twist ending. So, here is a list of my favorite ten movies with twists. At least these are the ten I can remember.

They are in no certain order, just whatever comes to mind first.

Spoilers Ahead (you've been warned)

1. The Mist: This movie was based on a Stephen King story. Although most of it was, I thought, typical and boring, the ending was the coolest thing ever, mainly cause I never saw it coming. What is the twist? Well, some people escape giants insects and killer monster things, or at least they think they are getting away. The car runs out of gas. Then, they hear a horrible growling sound getting closer and closer. Of course, they assume something is about to squish or eat them, so the star of the movie uses the last of his bullets to shoot his small son and all the other people in the car. Then, he gets out and waits for the monster to kill him. Only it isn't a monster. The growl is coming from a tank. The army has arrived to save him. Ooops.

2. Planet of the Apes: I remember watching this when I was a kid, the original and not the remake. An astronaut crashes on a strange planet with talking apes, and he spends the rest of the movie trying to get home only to finally figure out that he is home. He's landed on Earth in the future. Ooops.

3. Fight Club: The star of the movie tells us in the beginning that he's suffering from a terrible lack of sleep, so when we later finds out that he's imagined his new friend, Brad Pitt, it shouldn't surprise us. Yet it did.

4. The Sixth Sense: Bruce Willis plays a shrink, and he struggles to help a small boy who thinks he sees dead people. LOL. It never occurred to me that Bruce was dead the whole time. Guess I wasn't paying attention.

5. Scream: This movie really got me, and it taught me a lot about good mis-direction. First, they make the killer look guilty. Then, they clear him of being the killer. Clever. Turns out there are two killers. I never saw it coming.

6. The Game: This movie is kind of old, but I still remember it. Michael Douglas gets a weird present for his birthday. Someone is trying to kill him. You know what they say about never feeling quite as alive as when you are close to dying. Turns out the whole thing is just a game, a set-up to bring that rosy glow back to his cheeks. I would have shot the person responsible for giving me this stupid present. There were so many ways this could have gone wrong. What if he'd had a heart attack?  Oops.

7. Frailty: This one shocked me. It was so awesome. This poor kid grows up with a nutty father who thinks he heard from an angel and that he's killing bad people for God. Only, it turns out he's telling the truth, and the rebellious son is eventually killed by the brother following in his dad's footsteps.

8. The Uninvited: This is a favorite of mine, although I kind of figured out what was going on. A girl is released from the hospital after spending a lot of time there following her mother's death. She just couldn't cope, and now she's thrust back into family life with a new stepmother she suspects is a killer and her sister is the only one who will take it seriously. Too bad her sister is dead, and she's actually talking to herself. Crazy? Yeah. Send her back to the hospital.

9. Hide and Seek: In the scenes, this looked so creepy with the little girl telling a woman that they're 'already playing the game' and how she tells her dad that she has a friend she isn't supposed to talk about. Her dad, a shrink, is worried about his poor little darling. Then we discover he's crazy and has a split personality. He's his daughter's weird friend, and he'll kill anyone she talks to about him.

10. The Perfect Getaway: A friend watched this movie before me and was shocked by the twist, so she challenged me to figure out what was going on before the end. I told her what was happening before the beginning credits even ended. LOL. The star couple are actually the killers pretending to be a couple on their honeymoon, but they killed those people. I realized it when they showed a video from the wedding at the start, but the bride and groom are never shown (at least not their faces). Ah-ha!

Did I fail to mention your favorite twist ending movie?

Top Ten Supernatural Characters

This is my TOP TEN picks for favorite characters from the show Supernatural that were killed off but should return. These are the characters I miss. Supernatural is known for killing off their characters, even the main ones. Sam, Dean, and Castiel regularly return from the dead, but what about these other characters?

If you haven't watched all the way through to the end of season ten, you may not want to read this list. It contains SPOILERS (if you haven't seen all the episodes yet). You've been warned.

There were more than ten on my list so I had to cut it down.

These are not in order of how much I like them. I don't have the time to give it THAT much thought. Let's see if you agree with my choices. Have any you want to add???

1. Charlie: This was one of the most shocking deaths because we never saw it coming, and fans feel like it was just thrown in there to give Dean a reason to go over the edge. They need to bring her back.

2. Jessica: I don't want her character to come back to life or anything, but I would LOVE it if Sam was forced to have an honest conversation with her about how he kept her in the dark about his family and how it led to her death. I would love to see him get some closure on this. Plus, she should be given the chance to vent after he told her he loved her and then lied to her.

3. Bobby: Of course, this one would be awesome. The angels need to send him back so that he can work with the boys again, at least for a while.

4. Kevin: This one made me mad. He was still a kid and wanted to have a normal life. What happened to him was horrible, so I would love it if he got a second chance.

5. Balthazar: He was always fun when he was messing with the Winchesters. I'll never forget when he unsank the Titanic.

6. John Winchester: I don't want him to come back to life, but I would love it if he'd return for a guest appearance, especially if it was on the last episode.

7. Ellen/Jo: Since they died together, I wanted to list them together. A lot of fans complained about them for some reason, but I thought they were awesome, especially Ellen. She and Dean had that special relationship where she could see through his tough act, and she always wanted to mother him.

8. Trickster: His episodes are always so funny.

9. Meg/Ruby: I am listing them together because I don't care which one returns. I would just love to see one of these women come back to mess with Sam and Dean again.

10. Death: Oh, please, he cannot be gone forever. I loved the way everyone was afraid of him and Dean would try to placate him with junk food. His demise was stupid. I don't think Death would be dumb enough to give Dean the one weapon that can kill him. Dumb, dumb, dumb. When he gave it to Dean, I was like, wait a second! You are going to give a Winchester a weapon? Are you serious? Crowley wouldn't be that stupid.

Anyway, there is my list of the ten (plus) characters I would love to see return for at least one episode.

Top Ten YA with Romance

Top Ten YA with Romance (in my opinion).

10.  Twilight: Bella can't stay away from Edward, and the girl can't hardly think of anything but him.  It's obsessive love, but it works.  This book, with all its problems, helped me to fall in love with YA again so it has to be on my list of top ten.

9.  Vampire Academy: Interesting romance along with a deep friendship between a girl and the girl she has to protect, but I thought the second one in the series was better than the first.

8.  Fault in Our Stars: To be honest, I haven't read this one yet, but people keep telling me how amazing it is, so I think it deserves to be somewhere on my list.

7.  Vampire Diaries: While I like the show now better than the books, it all started there, and I remember loving the tension between the two brothers and Elena while reading it.

6.  Divergent: I usually hate these kind of books, but the idea of a girl wanting to join this reckless group of young people even if it meant never seeing her family again drew me in.

5. If I Stay: I admit to liking the movie better than the book.  Sorry.  Usually I don't feel that way, but the actress who played the girl was amazing.  Still, this is one of my faves when it comes to romance in YA.

4. Shiver: I can't remember their names now, but I enjoyed reading this one about a girl who falls in love with a werewolf.  It is very teen love.  After they finally spend the night together, she is amazed that her mother can't tell by just looking at her.  That hit me as very real.

3. Harry Potter: I know these fantasy books that started out for children and wound up being written for an older group doesn't have much in the field of romance, but what I like about it is the jealousy and the confused way that Ron and Hermonie started their relationship.

2. Need:  This is about pixies.  If you haven't read it, you should try it.  The main girl has two boyfriends throughout the series and you have no idea who she'll wind up with.  Worth reading.

1. City of Bones: These are my favorite YA books, the Mortal Instrument Series, and it all starts with this one.  Jace is sarcastic, kind of mean, and witty.  He's a bad boy that you just want to put your arms around.  Clary is the girl who falls for him and grows into a strong person by the end.

Honorable Mentions: I didn't want to be so arrogant as to list mine above, even though I do love the romance in them, so I am putting them down here.

Bait: This one starts off the Order of the Spirit Realm Series and features a forbidden love that grows between Van Helsing's daughter and a rock star slash vampire hunter.  She's driven to be a great hunter so she can seek revenge on the pack that killed her mom, and he is angry because he had to grow up without a family.

Vampires Rule: When Jack loses his fangs and gets a second chance at a normal life, he falls in love with THE werewolf slayer.  At that point, any chance he had at normal is gone.
