My Very First Book Signing: I am FREAKING OUT!!!

Lol.  Okay, the deal is this.  I got in touch with one of the biggest bookstores in town and they are going to let me do a signing at their store a week or two before Halloween.  We are turning it into a party, because I hate those BORING book signings where the author sits at a table and prays someone will get close enough for them to pitch the book.  We are going to give away prizes and try to get customers to come in costume.  I am excited but FREAKED OUT over it.  Lol.

Does anyone here have experience with book signings?  What happened?  Did you sell a lot of copies or were you disappointed?  Do you have any tricks or tips for me?

BTW, if anyone here lives near Joplin, MO or knows someone who does, come back to find out when the book signing is.  I would love to see you there.  :)

Congrats! I would be spazzing out if I got to do a book signing. Hope it goes great.

Thank you. I am 'spazzing out.' Seriously. It sounds good on paper, but I hope I can pull it off without tripping, stuttering, or something else equally embarrassing.

I wish I knew what a book signing was like. :-) But this is SO fantastic - good on you for convincing a bookstore to allow this. (So your book is also on CreateSpace or whatever?)

From what I've heard, though, most signings *are* boring things...sounds like this is going to be a lot of fun.

Too bad I live in New Jersey, or I'd stop by. :-)

Good luck!

(And have a nice 4th of July weekend!)

Yes, I published with Createspace. The bookstore didn't even ask. They are a store that trades as well as sells, so they wanted the books on consignment anyway, so I take home the ones I don't sell, but it is a sweet deal for me. They are taking 20 percent from sales and are doing the advertising themselves.
