Top Ten Supernatural Shows

What are my favorite supernatural shows?

1. Supernatural: This one should be obvious. 

Supernatural has to be my favorite show of all time. Why? Mainly because this show has everything including action, drama, humor, and lots of emotion. Like the Impala, it's a sweet ride. 

The characters are flawed, brave, sometimes noble, funny, and so co-dependent on each other. Sam and Dean have this love/hate thing going that is incredible to watch. 

Episodes range from comical to dark and tragic. I just can't get enough. If you haven't watched it yet, what are you waiting for?

2. Vampire Diaries: The books and the show are barely related. I loved the books; I love the show. Now that Elena has left I don't know that I'll watch it anymore, but I'll at least give it a chance.

The characters have an amazing chemistry, especially Damon and Elena. It's been amazing, watching them learn to live in this weird world that is so different from what they (the humans) thought it was, and it's also cool to watch the supernatural creatures trying to find love and survive at the same time.

3. Grimm: I didn't like this show at first. Some of the supernatural creatures are just too strange for me to take it seriously, but then they started to delve deeper into the Grimm mythology and how Nick deals with being the Grimm.

I have enjoyed watching the characters find out that Nick is the Grimm and that monsters exist. Can't wait for the next season.

4. The Walking Dead: I have trouble watching this show. It is SO amazing that it gives me nightmares. At first I thought, zombies, yeah right. But it is so well done, so real that I can't look at the screen half the time. I sit on the edge of my seat, wondering when the next attack will come.

Daryl is my fave, of course. If I was stuck in a zombie war, he'd be the guy I'd want standing next to me. 

5. Buffy: I think this was the first supernatural series I watched, the one that started it all. To me, the idea of a young pretty girl who fights monsters was impossible to pass up. 

The chemistry between characters is amazing. Anya, a former demon, is afraid of bunnies. Willow, the computer nerd, turns into a powerful witch by the end of the series. Xander can by annoying and judgmental, but he's always there when they need him. Then there are the vampires: Angel, Spike, Druscilla. So much fun. 

There was so much good in this show, but the forbidden love between Buffy and Angel was the stuff of legends.

6. Smallville: Most people might not add a show like Smallville to a post about supernatural TV programs, but Clark Kent was an alien, technically. 

My favorite things about the show include Clark's relationship with his parents, the way he felt like such a freak and couldn't tell anyone he cared about that he had superpowers, and his love for Lana Lang.

7. Heroes: Yes, another superhero show. I'm not sure about the reboot series that is about to hit the airwaves, but I did love the original. 

Loved that little Japanese dude and how he wanted to save the cheerleader. haha

Peter and Sylar were my favorite characters.

8. Teen Wolf: Okay, I just watched my very first episode of this, but I am liking it so far. In fact, I liked it so much that I went straight to Amazon and bought the first couple of seasons.

What's not to like about a boy trying to keep his head above water in high school and then gets powers to help him rise above the others? Always love a good story about an underdog that becomes the alpha male.

9. Angel: Although this show never really got its feet off the ground, I will mention it because it was a spin-off of Buffy. I especially loved it when Spike (who was supposed to have been killed on Buffy) popped up on the show in the last season.

10. Once Upon a Time: I'll be writing a book based on fairy tale characters soon, so this is a good show for me to watch. It's funny, cause I love the evil characters more than the good ones. For some reason I can't stand Snow White. But I love the evil queen.

Top Ten Indie Authors
This is a list of MY favorite Indie Authors and has nothing to do with who sold what, awards, or how many books they've written. These are Indie Authors that I know and respect. Let's see how many of them you know.  In no particular order:

1. Quinn Loftis: Quinn lives in Arkansas and has several YA books available on Amazon and other sites including the popular Grey Wolves Series and her newest fabulous novel titled "Dream of Me." 2. Holly Kelly: Holly lives in Utah and is a mom to six rambunctious kids. How does she find time to write? I have no idea. But I do know that her Rising Series is awesome. I mean, come on, how can you beat a series on mermaids? I'm currently reading book one and enjoying it. Can't wait to move on to the next, and you can download the first book for free at Amazon (I can't guarantee it will be free when you decide to go look, so hurry).

3. Jon Messenger: Jon serves in the Army and wrote "Brink of Distinction" while serving in Iraq. But his book "Wolves of the Northern Rift" is what I'm most interested in at this time. You have got to check out the cover here. Beautiful. I admit I haven't read any of his books YET, but they sound awesome and are on my ever growing TBR list. 4. Suzy Turner: Suzy lives in Portugal, lucky girl, and I've had the pleasure getting to know her through a writing group we both belong to. She's always willing to give someone a helping hand, and I love her writing style. Her book Raven is free right now, but my favorite is "The Ghost of Josiah Grimshaw" and it is available for less than a dollar.

5. Keary Taylor: Keary lives on an island. That's right. You heard me. She lives on a small island in the Pacific Northwest. How cool is that? This girl is a cyclone of activity, always doing something creative, working hard, taking care of her kids, traveling the country to meet her fans at book events. And she has a LOT of fans. She writes a variety of genres, so I just picked a free book for you to try at random.

6. Sherry Ficklin: Sherry is a popular author. Perhaps you've heard of "Queen of Someday." But I want to talk to you about "Haunting Zoe." I haven't read it yet, but it sounds awesome. Seriously, a love story where one of the characters is a ghost. Sounds good to me. You can try it for free (at least at the time that I am writing this.)

7. Heather Hildenbrand: Heather has two homes; she splits her time between Virginia and the island of Guam. That's cool. Don't you think? Anyway, I haven't read these books yet, but I keep hearing about them. Rumor has it that NBC is thinking about making a show based on them. That would be awesome. 8. Bryna Butler: Bryna and I met through a writer's group. She's a wonderful lady and extremely busy with her writing. Her book was featured on a coffee table in the background on an Internet vampire series inspired by Rachel Caine's "Morganville" series. Bryna's first book, "Of Sun & Moon" is free at this time.

9. Liz Long: Liz and I have been friends for a while now. We share a love of super hero movies. Her favorite is Captain America, but I prefer Iron Man. She has written an interesting series with a circus, a girl who can control fire, and a murder mystery thrown in. It isn't free, but it is under a dollar.

10. Kasi Blake: LOL. Well, I threw myself in because I am worn out from trying to come up with enough Indie Authors I personally know to fill this list. Graduation Stories:

This week we are talking about stories with graduation scenes.  One of my vampire books Werewolves Rule happens to have a graduation scene, so I am posting part of it here.  If you haven't tried my vampire series yet, what's keeping you from it?  Vampires Rule is free.  That means you can't lose.  And if you discover you love Jack, Silver, Jersey, and Billy as much as I do, you have a few more books to read in the series.  Awesome!!!

Here is the excerpt:

Unfortunately, the school put them in alphabetical order so he couldn't sit next to Silver.  He was in the front row, and she was somewhere near the back.  When 'acting' Principal Ian Carver called his name, Jack reluctantly stood. His eyes swept the crowd, and he realized with a start that he was searching for his family. The dreams of graduating, of how things should be, had brainwashed him.  His mom would have been crying.  Perhaps his father's eyes would have misted over, too.

Jack moved forward on legs that felt like rubber to accept the long-awaited piece of paper.  His hand reached out even as a familiar face stole his attention.  Billy.  Jack tripped over his own feet as he walked across the stage.  A few people chuckled in the background, and Ian raised a curious eyebrow. Worried that the hunters in the room would see his brother and go after him, Jack kept moving.  He took the diploma and shook Ian's large hand before continuing on to the other side of the stage as if nothing important was on his mind.

Jack risked another quick look at the back of the auditorium.  Billy stood near the exit.  He nodded once at Jack before using the door.  That was it.  He walked out, and Jack experienced a claustrophobic rush of panic.  Was Billy going to wait outside for him?  Was he ready to come home?  Did he need to talk to Jack about the changes warping his mind and body?  Or was he going to disappear again?

Forgetting about wanting to see Silver graduate, Jack ducked out the side door and raced around the building as fast as he could without using vampire-speed.  His heart pounded so loud he could hear it.  Arms and legs pumping, he ran until he made it to the parking lot.  Quickly, he scanned the area.  No sign of his brother.  He was too late.

Billy had vanished into the dark of night.  Out of breath, Jack bent over, hands on his knees as he struggled to regulate his breathing.  Heavy emotions clogged his throat.  

"Looking for me?" Billy asked over his shoulder.

Jack jumped and whipped around, uncertain if his brother was there to finish him off or just talk. Billy looked good... for a werewolf.  He hadn't shaved in at least three days, and there were purple half-moons beneath his eyes, but he was alive.  That's what mattered most.  Relief flooded Jack's system.

"You came," he said in a dumb statement-of-the-obvious.

"Yeah.  I was in the neighborhood."

"Are you ready to come home?"

Billy's mood darkened.  "Can't."

"What are you talking about?  There isn't a full moon anymore.  You're fine now, right?  We can find Jersey and kill him before you morph again."

"You don't get it."  Billy shoved his hands into his jean pockets.  He shifted from foot to foot, filled with untamed energy.  "That moon doesn't matter.  I can't be near you.  Even now I'm thinking of ripping your throat out."

Review for Witch Hunt

This is one of the first reviews for Witch Hunt.  It was on Goodreads so I copied it.  This is by A Diary of a Book Addict, the blog.

"Witch Hunt was one of those books where I could not put it down because every turn of the page captured me and I needed more. Then I had to put it down because of school. If your in school you know how hard it is to do homework and papers and read all at the same time. So I was glad when I was able to pick it back up and finish it.

Starr Hughes is the school reporter and she loves to tell the news, especially the news that no one wants people to know. Then Starr stumbles upon a rumor that a new group called the IT-Squad is going to be doing something really big and she wants in so she can report on it and spy on her crush Dylan Winchester. She has a HUGE crush on Dylan and anything that gets her close to him she will do.

Then Starr realizes that something is wrong with this game. Someone is trying to steal peoples memories and powers. At first Starr didn't believe in witches but in the end she does and she has to figure out who is hurting her fellow classmates. As she unravels the secret game and the person responsible for hurting her classmates she is surprised by who it is. Never in her wildest dreams did she think she would be able to help her classmates. What will happen to Starr as she uncovers this mess? Will she get Dylan in the end? What will happen to her BFF?

Teaser Tuesday: Cover Reveal

I was going to put another scene up, but I don't have a copy of Witch Hunt on this computer, so I decided to give you the first glimpse of the cover.  Here it is:

Teaser Tuesday: Scene 1

As promised here is another sneak peek into Witch Hunt.  This is only a partial scene.  I don't want to give too much away.  In this scene Starr Hughes is eavesdropping on two members of the It-Squad.  She is hoping to hear more about this mysterious game they're going to play.

"Freak-show is staring at you again," Bex said, heavy sigh.  "You want me to go over there and make her stop?  It would be my great pleasure to put that girl in her place."

Starr's entire body tensed.  Clenching her fists beneath the table, she forced her eyes to stay on them a moment longer.  If she jerked her gaze off them too fast, they might figure out she could hear them.  Then she'd be dead meat.

She reached for her sunglasses, picked them off the table, and returned them to her face.  She had to be careful not to dislodge the earpiece.  At least now they wouldn't be able to tell if her eyes were on them.

And what was with the weird girl callling her a freak anyway?

Bex didn't have much room to talk.  Her short-short platinum blond hair looked like someone had gone at it with a machete and she treated her face like a canvas, painting it with special dyes she made in her basement.  Today she sported a swirled pattern with emerald glitter accents.  It actually looked kind of cool, but Starr wouldn't admit that if they tortured her.  She would die before she gave that snotty girl a compliment.

Bex added, "I could blind her for a few hours."

Starr tried hard not to breathe or move or do anything that would cause static in the earpiece.  She eagerly awaited Dylan's response.  Although she assured herself she didn't care what Dylan thought, she knew it wasn't true.  She cared too much.

In a laid-back husky voice he said, "I think it's kind of cool the way she looks at me."

I just wanted to take a moment to let people know what books I have available at this time.  They would make a great Christmas gift for anyone who likes to read. 

Vampires Rule:  A seventeen-year-old vampire turns mortal but still has to fight werewolves.  You can read a sample chapter here on the blog.  Just press the button for the Vampires Rule page above.  This book can be found at Smashwords, Amazon, B&N, etc.  It is available as an ebook and in print. 

Werewolves Rule:  This is the book after Vampires Rule.  You can also find it at the same places.  I don't have a sample chapter here, but you can read a sample before purchasing at Smashwords or Amazon.

Crushed:  This is the first of the Witch-Game books.  Kristen and her sisters are playing a dangerous game at school using their powers.  They Crush the boys and make them do whatever comes to mind.  Unfortunately this year Kristen has picked on the wrong boy.  You can read a sample of this book on the Crushed Sample Chapter page above.  It can also be found at Smashwords, Amazon, B&N, etc. 

Coming Soon:  1.  Witch Hunt (the second book in the Witch-Game series).  You do not have to read Crushed to enjoy this one.  It has different characters and a different game. 
                        2. Pandora's Box: This is a romantic suspense book.  I used to write for Harlequin. In this book a woman named Madison wants to clear her father's name after he tries to kill the president. She and the president's son, a Navy SEAL, work together to uncover a dark secret, and they try not to fall for each other, but it's hard when they have to work so closely together.
                         3.  Mystery of Moore House:  This book might be published under a different name.  It was originally called Borrowed Identity and published by Harlequin.  I am in the process of getting my rights back so I can put it out as an ebook.
                         4.  Married to a Stranger:  Also published by Harlequin, this book was called Would-Be Wife, a title I always hated. 
                         5.  Shifters Rule:  The third book in the Rule series.  Hopefully I can get it out there by next summer.  It was supposed to be released soon, but my computer crashed and I've been having a lot of problems getting to it.
                        
Books in the Future:  Here are some that I would like to write in the next year or two.
                        1.  Raven's Claw:  The third book in the Witch-Game series.
                        2.  Bait:  The first in my hunter series.

Anyway, some of these books are written and some are in the dreaming stage still.  I hope you will pick up a copy of at least one of them and give it a try.  My greatest wish is simply to have people read and enjoy my books.  Thank you.  Happy Reading!

YA INDIE CARNIVAL: Blast from the Past

This week's assignment from the Carnival is all about our high school short stories, books, etc.  We're supposed to post something that we wrote in high school.  Unfortunately I threw out everything I wrote in high school a long time ago.  Yes, I know, that was stupid.  I've regretted it ever since, but there's nothing I can do about it now.  So I am going to post a short scene from Crushed, a scene that takes place in the high school.

This scene takes place in the hallway after the bell has rung and most students are in class.  Kristen has had a rough morning, and she's angry:

The hallway was empty with one huge exception:  Zach Bevian.

It didn't surprise her to see him talking on his cell.  She'd had a class with him once.  Tardy was his middle name.  If he was going to show up at all, it would be five to ten minutes late.  The loser probably wanted to make a grand entrance so everyone would look at him.  He finished the conversation and tucked the cell into his snug jeans.  She was suprised there was room in those pockets something wider than a quarter.

Too bad for him, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

She could be wild and fun and impulsive.  She would show Brittany that Kristen Noah was not your typical good girl.  There wasn't any reason why she couldn't get decent grades and have fun at the same time.  When she got done experimenting with her wild side, Brittany would beg her to play nice again.

She reached into her purse and pulled a long, skinny glass vial out.  Emptying the pink dust into one hand, she walked straight up to Zach.  Before she had the chance to come to her senses or count the number of ways this could go wrong, she blew the dust into his face.  A pink cloud floated around him for a second.  It dissipated quickly.  He stared at her in stunned silence.

The Crushed spell had that effect on people.  Boys gazed into space once they were hit with it.  The spell momentarily distorted their thinking.  Soon he would be following her around, doing her bidding, and making puppy-love eyes at her.  She couldn't wait.

The vision of him following her around brought a smile to her face.

She continued to walk, barely missing a step. 

Cyndi's shocked voice reached her ears.  "She didn't."

"She did," Brittany said.

"But we aren't supposed to start the game until next week."

"Tell that to the cheater."

Kristen felt better already.  She felt so good that she stopped to fix her face.  She pulled a mirror from her purse and reapplied her signature lipstick before heading to class.  Candy Apple Crush.   It was deep red, her favorite color, with diamond-like sparkles and a hint of gloss.  Her mother had it specially made for her in New York.

She compressed her lips to evenly distribute the color.  The mirror caught Zach Bevian's reflection.  He was still standing there with wide eyes and open mouth.  Poor guy didn't even look like he remembered his own name.

Regrets began to pile on top of her head.  Someone with a will as strong as Zach's was going to be hard to control.  She might actually lose the game this year.  She really shouldn't have Crushed him, but she needed the money that a side-bet with Brittany would give her.

His expression changed from puzzlement to pure hatred.  He glared at her with a murderous glint in his eyes.  Startled, she whipped around to look at him, but he was rummaging around in his locker again.

She must have imagined the hatred in his eyes.  Victims of the Crushed spell were instantly in love with the witch who brewed the potion.  A painful lump lodged in her throat, and remorse hung over her like a dark cloud.  Blowing the dust into his face had been a huge mistake.  She had a feeling she was going to be more sorry than sorry before this was over.  This could ruin everything.

Halloween Book Signing: CRUSHED

Time is running out... for me.  This Saturday at Vintage Stock at the Northpark Mall in Joplin, MO, I will be signing a limited number of copies of my book CRUSHED.  If you live in the area or know someone around here, I'd love a chance to meet you (or them).  There will be fun, prizes, a woman dressed as a witch handing out Halloween candy.  I'm giving away digital copies of Vampires Rule, also.  Can't wait.  I will be taking pictures and hopefully will be able to post a few next week.

Finding Something Original to Write About

Now that's a hard one.  I swear, every time I come with something I think has never been done, one of my friends tells me that they either just finished reading a book about it or saw a book about it online.  My reaction?  WHAT???  Are you kidding me?

No, they are not kidding.  This has been happening to me since I first started writing.  I remember being sixteen and thinking I had a killer idea that no one else had thought of.  Then I went to the store, looked at the books, and found that not only had someone else already thought of the same idea, but they'd beaten me to it.  This also happens to me frequently with titles.  Sucks!

Can you guess why I'm writing about this subject today?  That's right.  It happened again.  Because there are sooo many books about vampires and werewolves, I decided to go out on a limb and do something different.  I came up with what I thought was a wild idea.  Then I spoke to a friend in Ohio, and she tells me that she's reading a book that has the exact idea.  ????

How does this happen?  Am I psychic and picking up on other peoples' ideas, or does God give these ideas to several people at once?  Kind of depressing. 

Does this happen to anyone else, or is it just me for some reason?
